Apply to GC in DC

Application Process

Students are required to have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA to qualify for the GC in DC Program. Students must also complete an application process:

  1. Review information about the "GC in DC Program."
  2. Meet with a GC in DC Program Coordinator to discuss the program. To schedule a meeting, visit Handshake and schedule a “Legislative Internships” appointment or email career.center@gcsu.edu.
  3. Discuss the program with academic advisor and determine credit options.
  4. Submit all application materials by the deadline. The current deadline for the Fall 2025 application cycle is April 11, 2025


Application Materials

In order to complete an application, students should submit the following required documents:  

  1. One page resume (for help writing a resume, please schedule an appointment with the Career Center)
  2. Two letters of recommendation
  3. Complete application form
  4. Interest statement (150 words): Why are you interested in the GC in DC Program?
  5. Position statement (250 words): Identify an issue and support your perspective.

In addition, students who wish to apply for financial assistance via the GC in DC Program may do so by submitting a statement of financial need along with the required application materials. The statement should be less than 400 words and answer the following prompt: How will financial assistance help you succeed in a DC-based internship?
